Calvin Smith, 36, of Little Egg Harbor Township has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing at 12:14 a.m. on Monday, township police said.
A 38-year-old woman was found at a home on Buckhorn Lane Court with multiple cuts and stab wounds on -- and around -- her neck, Little Egg Harbor police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene by patrol officers and EMTs from the Great Bay Regional Ambulance Service, police said.
She was then taken to the community center where she was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. She has since been released from the hospital, police said.
Smith fled the crime scene before police arrived, they said, but was later arrested without incident.
He was additionally charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges, police said.
Smith was being held in a secure hospital on Tuesday and was expected to be transferred to Ocean County Jail, they said.
